We’ve had some problems with scammers impersonating the Specialty on Facebook. Here’s the link to the one and only, honest-to-goodness Specialty group on Facebook: Click here.
If you’re not already a member of this group, you can request to join. One of the moderators will check out your profile and admit you. If you’re sketchy, you’ll be declined. If you got declined and think the admins made a mistake (it does happen), then ping one of the admins and let us know.
How Do I Know Which is Legit?
It’s hard to tell which is the real thing while on FB, and the scammers out there are trying to make it even harder for you. Here are some things that can help, and we’re already sorry for the length of this list.
- BCCA National Specialty 2025 is a private group. Anyone can search for it and see that it exists, but you have to be invited to join, or request to join. Membership is not automatic.
- We don’t send out friend requests. We do send out invitations, and the name on the invite should be familiar (You can only be invited by someone who is already a Facebook friend of yours.). If you don’t know the person, don’t accept.
- Facebook has made everything extra confusing by separating groups from pages from events. We do not have a page or an event. If you’ve been asked to join one of those, don’t do it — report it.
- Look for the group admins in the list of members, or in the news feed. Your admins are members of the Show Committee: Jennifer Waldeck, Karen Norteman, Sue Jamison, & Tish Pollock. If you don’t see all of us there, it’s a fake. You can also message any one of us to ask.
- We have no one named BCCA National Specialty 2025 in the group — so if you hear from someone with that name, it’s a scam. Report them. Likewise, we will not admit anyone named “Specialty” to the group.
- We’ll announce when we have logo items available for sale, and they’ll be available here on this website (bcca2025.com). If you spot anything using our logo on any site that is not bcca2025.com, please let us know and report the heck out of them. Don’t give them any money!
- If you see anything that says it’s from outside the USA or is in a language other than English, don’t accept.
- It’s OK to not be sure — that’s how they get you. If you’re not sure whether to join a group or accept an invitation, please ping one of the admins before you do anything else.
